Automobiles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities reported they were contacted by a resident who found a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for details.

A high-ranking official commented the incident left him without words and needed to be solved promptly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
